Explanations:

  • If you are under 18, don't use your full name or don't use your name at all.
  • Your career objective should tell what you want to accomplish with this specific resume.  Your resume supports why you should be able to accomplish your goal.
  •  If the title of your school gives away your location of where you live, discuss with a parent/guardian if this is acceptable to share.
  • If your GPA is not above 3.0, don't include it.
  • Share the grade you are in, and you can even share the classes you take.
  • Share your extra-curricular activities.  If you held a leadership position and had specific responsibilities, you can write that section like a job description.
  • Talk about what your plans are after you graduate high school.  People who read resumes want to know that you are always pursuing more learning.
  • Write your job description and volunteer work using the same style.  Only write the most important 2-3 things you accomplished.
  • Only use the most current awards and recognition.  Try not to go back further than 5 years.  If you have received the same award annually then list the award and write the range of years.
  • Write skills that support your objective.  If you want to be a junior coach, choose skills that coaches need.  If you want to be a sales associate at a store, choose skills such as strong mathematical ability.
